Fitness & Training Tip: Staying Mindful While Exercising

In today’s world it is important to recognize that there are so many distractions that affect us on a regular bases – not just physically but mentally as well.  So how do you stay mindful while exercising?

The MB Fit Studio concept is to integrate Mind , Body and Fitness. Keeping this concept in mind the MB Fit Studio team create group fitness training programs that provide benefits beyond physical well being.

Mental health is by far one the most important things to consider when it comes to health and well being. Training the mind so that we can move better is definitely part of our programming for Mindfulness through exercise. When we are mentally distracted during exercise we lose connection with what we are doing: we lose that magic moment of feeling your own strength and power as you exercise. There is definitely a flow that happens when we are in the moment. This Flow provides many benefits.

Here are some simple ways to practice staying mindful while exercising.

FOCUS ON YOUR BREATHING. When you have negative thoughts, try to sit down, take a deep breath and close your eyes. Focus on your breath as it moves in and out of your body. Sitting and breathing for even just a minute can help.

PAY ATTENTION. It’s hard to slow down and notice things in a busy world. Practice experiencing your environment with all of your senses — touch, sound, sight, smell and taste. For example, when you are performing a bicep curl, take the time to notice the proper position , what muscles are contracting and which ones are lengthening during the movement.

LIVE IN THE MOMENT. Try to intentionally bring an open, accepting and discerning attention to everything you do while moving from one exercise to the next. Find joy in the smallest of victories.

ACCEPT YOURSELF. Treat yourself the way you would treat a good friend. No need to look in the mirror.

STOP MAKING EXCUSES. We are good at making excuses of why we do things and what happened to justify why we move the way we do…STOP! We are all a work in progress so just pick up from where you are and get going on what is going to improve your movement and your quality of life.
